The pain in my shoulder…
It is not easy being in chronic physical pain.
Some of my busy professional clients are experiencing burnout and have physical pain as well as a host of other problems like feeling overwhelmed, overeating, feeling stuck, relationship issues, procrastinating and other stress related issues.
These issues are interfering with a life that they are meant to lead.
I certainly have experienced this and it is not fun at all.
My advice is to listen to what your body is telling you. We may not know what is saying but it is getting your attention.
The bottom line is that emotions affect our bodies. We know stress does all things to us. We get tired, cranky and negative.
What do long term negative thoughts and feelings cause?
Stress raises our blood pressure, anger can cause headaches, fear leads to stomach aches and anxiety can trigger rashes.
I was reading that anywhere from 80 to 85 % of disease is caused by stress.
I was introduced to EFT about 10 years ago when I was with a group of friends at a alternative healing conference.
I was on my own journey to reduce stress in my life and have a better life than the one I was living.
I had pain in my left shoulder that I had for some time and for the most part I was trying to ignore it but it kept coming back from time to time.
My doctor told me that it was arthritis and it was coming from my neck and that I was always going to have it.
But I noticed that at extremely stressful times in my life that the pain was very noticeable and others times I was pain free.
This day, I noticed it.
I stopped at a booth that was offering free 15 minute sessions of EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques).
I had no idea what that was but she briefly explained the Meridian Energy System and how you tap around these points while focusing on your problem with phrasing describing your problem and then saying some words that end with an acceptance statement.
She talked about that there may be an emotional or energetic imbalance in my energy system that may be contributing to your pain.
So she asked me about my pain and what the intensity was and we started to tap. I said what she said and tapped for a few minutes.
I have to admit it felt strange as we were in a group setting.
If you are a person who suffers from FOLF (fear of looking foolish) than EFT will seem strange and may not be for you if you are not open.
We tapped the meridian end points and said some words about the pain and I accept myself anyway. Which was very empowering to say actually.
Just saying those words brought relief as I wasn’t resisting it anymore.
She then asked me if my shoulder could talk what emotion was in the shoulder and I immediately knew it was sadness.
She asked me more questions and we tapped on the emotion of sadness and how I had a lot of burdens that year.
I shared with her that my parents had died that year within 2 weeks of each other and I felt sad but actually wasn’t dealing with it as well as I could have. I missed my mother and that was part of it.
I kept pushing my feelings down and doing all kinds of things so I wouldn’t feel that pain. Overeating was one of them. Keeping busy was another one. I held onto the grief and emotional pain and part of it was in my shoulder.
Afterwards the tapping my pain was gone and I had a great rest of the day. What a relief!!
The next day it came back but it was different than before. 15 minutes is not going to take care of anything like that as I didn’t go far enough into the core issues but there was relief.
I knew from that experience that there was something to it and I wondered what else could EFT help me with but it wasn’t until many years later that I took my first workshop and my new journey began as a EFT Specialist.
I know if EFT can help me than I know it can help you!
I now work with very busy professionals who need help reducing their stress related symptoms so they may live the life they always wanted to lead. I am very proud and honored to be assisting and helping my clients.
