The table top and legs analogy in EFT
I love explaining the table top and legs analogy in EFT as it makes so much sense.
Say for example, you have “low self confidence” and I find that many people struggle with this and it is not a nice feeling.
I can relate as I once had a boss tell me that she thought I had low self confidence. It was in a particular area of my job but not all of it as there were many areas of my job where I felt confident and it showed by my accomplishments. I felt assertive in many areas but there was one area that I didn’t. I remember feeling hurt by it but I also felt at the time OK, so what if I do and really what do I do about it. I tried many things with courses on self improvement, meditation, reiki and self help books all in my search for healing. My confidence improved but it wasn’t until I discovered EFT and started using it on a regular basis I cleared up many of these issues.
So to explain this I will say that the table top is “low self confidence”.
Underneath holding the feeling up of low self confidence are the legs. These legs are all the specific events that caused you to feel low self confidence or you decided there was something wrong with you.
In EFT or tapping, we tap on these specific events (legs) in detail to collapse them and when this happens the table top falls down. Now most of us have 100’s or even 1000’s of these events but we only have to tap on 2, 3, 4 , 5, 10 or up to 20 of them. If we do these well then we don’t have to tap on the others. Gary Craig calls this the generalization effect because of the common theme between them. See him explain this here.
It takes patience and persistence and when you stay with it you start seeing changes that are lifelong. One of my recent clients who finished her 6 month program said to me when asked about her confidence level she said, ” I never had self confidence my whole life but now my confidence is soaring.”
I would love to talk to you about any issues that are interfering with you enjoying your life whether it is self confidence, speaking up, or a critical mind set. Contact me today for your free 20 minute consultation.
