My lesson in shouldering too much!
It all started 14 years ago when I went to a holistic health expo with 2 very good friends. My left shoulder was aching and I was not enjoying myself because my mind was on the pain.
That day I was walking through and looking at all the holistic booths stopping at those that interested me. I saw this booth with a sign, “Free EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) session for 15 minutes”. I stopped and asked a woman at the booth, what is EFT?, and she said, it is a stress relief tool and tapping on parts of the body and would you like to try it? I said sure, and didn’t know that a new journey in my own healing would begin and the opportunity to help others. I don’t know what exactly she said, but we tapped and acknowledged my pain in my left shoulder. I felt relief after each round of tapping. After several minutes of tapping the pain was less.
She then asked me if there was emotion to that pain and I knew what it was. We then acknowledged that grief I had as my mother had passed that year. Some tears came along with the tapping and I felt more relief. At the end of the 15 minutes, my pain was gone for the whole day.
It came back the next day but it was different than it was in intensity. This was very curious to me and I wanted to explore more.
I now know that more tapping was needed to explore why the shoulder? With tapping, I discovered that I had a lot of “shoulds on myself and others” in my mind that I learned from others that were not serving me anymore. I should do this, I should do that, it is my responsibility, our family does this, etc. All of these beliefs created a burden and I held them in my shoulder.
Once I opened the door to changing beliefs that I don’t have to believe anymore and replace it with what I choose instead of should the pain started to lessen and lessen. I am living proof that this works and I am now pain free in my left shoulder.
